On February 1, a new branch manager was appointed to Pickfords’ branch in Durban. We welcome Martin De la Rey, and speak to him about his industry background.

After training as a branch manager for three years in Johannesburg, under the mentorship of Pickfords’ Johannesburg’s charismatic former Branch Manager, Ravi Naik, Martin says that it has been a special honor for him to be assigned to head up Pickfords’ Durban branch.

This is because this was the branch in which Ravi originally made his name in the Pickfords group, in – figuratively speaking – the same chair Martin now occupies, before moving to Johannesburg.

While those are big shoes to fill, Martin brings with him the calm confidence needed for this role. Including his three years as a trainee manager, he has a total of 18 years’ experience in the South African removals industry, and an additional 12 years’ experience in the South African Police Service.

“I am very excited about the move down to Pickfords Durban and am very positive that this branch can go to new heights,” says Martin.

“I have the support of Management and a very good team in Durban behind me. I believe when one grows people, the business, the Branch, the Brand and the Group grow along with them – to the benefit of all.”

With Pickfords Durban responsible for delivering Pickfords’ services throughout Kwa-Zulu Natal, Martin is familiarizing himself with the unique characteristics and needs of the region’s market.

“I am thankful for each and every one at Pickfords Johannesburg that had a positive input on my life and am looking forward in sharing my experience and knowledge with my staff,” he concludes. “I am sure we are going to be a team to be reckoned with!”

We’re confident in you too, Martin!

Pickfords also wishes to thank outgoing Durban Branch Manager, Zirk Swanepoel, for his service to the brand, and we wish him all the best in his next position with the Group.
